(No posts since June 20 ... someones been sleeping on the job) I always seem to have this song in my head leading up to R&R. But this time its more relevant than ever. I was thinking of posting all of the questions that I expect to be asked over and over on this blog and have it as required reading for any friends before dinner or coffee dates but honestly I'm too tired and have other things to do. So if I seem exhausted or unable to articulate the answers to questions like, "So what's really going on in Sudan?" "Do you like it?" "Do you want to continue working there?" give me a bit of a break...Yes, its hot, yes, sometimes the food is weird but not that bad, yes I hope to continue working there, and no the conflict is not the most logical thing you can disect... "What am I looking forward to at home?" Hugs, strawberries, a quiet house, deciding to drive somewhere all by myself without anyone knowing (now that is living on the edge!), eating lots of fiber, calling people and not worrying about the call being $.50 or $1.5/minute, smooth roads that don't make you feel like you are about to be thrown from the vehicle, vehicles that aren't 2 feet off the ground, sarcasm, my cat, not having a daily security meeting, streaking from the bathroom to the bedroom (scandalous I tell you), vanilla lattes, gin and tonics and all kinds of sweet girly drinks, rhubarb pie, my bed that's as soft as a cloud, enjoying the sunshine and the pool (yes, there is sunshine here but seeing that bathing suits aren't exactly in the protocol of aid worker apparel you are only permited to get a farmers tan) and having a good laugh with people that know me.
There will be hopefully some additional posts shortly, if not stay tuned for highlights of my R&R.
