Top 10 things to consider when Fantasizing about a Safari

1. The 7 hour drive may be so bumpy, a normally non-car sick person gets to feeling ill from the dust, constant swerving and bouncing along. (ipod's may cure this however)
2. Getting up at 6 am allows you to see those rare and special animals
3. There may not be power in your camp at night, so laying in the dark thinking of animals just outside the tent should not be pondered too long before dozing off
4. You may be required to push the car out of the mud
5. You may be required to evacuate the vehicle before traversing a large lake like puddle
6. Some people go on safaris for days and don't get to see a cheetah eating a gazelle (I was not one of those people)
7. Budget safari camps - you get what you pay for...and that's part of the fun
8. Please come to a country to do more than go on a safari
9. You may get in a traffic jam with other safari vans over seeing a leopard in a tree, and then get stuck in the mud.
10. Be sure to stop at elite hotels for a potty breaks...they clean the floor frequently enough.

The Inaugural Teaching Topic

So I'm teaching class 7 science and some math, which is great I know most of the kids and behaviour wise they have been good to me so far.  The first science topic was drugs, HIV/AIDS and then they wanted to cover rape.  Many of the names of drugs are different here, miraa, bhang, etc.  I neglected to tell them they sell drugs in front of my house at home. So it was a nice light topic to start with. I think they know more about HIV/AIDS than I do. Now if I can just remember the rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions I'd be good.

An Evening House Guest

My mom went downstairs a few nights ago, and saw a white face in the darkness of our front room, that then proceeded to jump out the one window that is usually left open.  She then remembered there had been a cat that had been begging at the back door, that now apparently likes to sleep in our comfy chairs at night (now i see the gray fur in the chairs).  So last night, the window got shut by the wind and it was stuck in the house.  It hid in the bedroom for a while and then ran out the front door after a few minutes of not coaxing it. I think the cat wants to adopt us.
